How to Fill Out a PDF Form Online (Even Non-Fillable Ones)
Fill in any PDF form in your browser — interactive fields or flat, non-fillable documents. Type answers, check boxes and sign, then download the completed form.
Short answer: Open the PDF Editor, and use the text tool to type into the blanks, add checkmarks, and place your signature. It works even on flat, non-fillable PDFs — you add your own text on top — then download the finished form. No printing or scanning.
Most PDF forms fall into two types, and you can complete both online without printing them out.
Two kinds of PDF forms
| Form type | How to fill it |
|---|---|
| Interactive (clickable fields) | Click each field and type; tick checkboxes directly |
| Flat / non-fillable (just a printed layout) | Add your own text, checkmarks and signature on top with an editor |
The frustrating one is the flat form — a scan or export with no clickable fields. The trick is that you don't need fields at all: you place your own text exactly where the blanks are.
How to fill out a PDF form
- Open the form in the PDF Editor.
- Type into the blanks with the text tool — click where a line or box is and enter your answer.
- Check boxes by adding a checkmark or an X at each box.
- Sign it with the signature tool if the form needs a signature.
- Download the completed PDF.
Filling a non-fillable (flat) form
This is where an editor shines. Because you're placing text on top of the page, it doesn't matter that there are no interactive fields:
- Use the text tool for names, dates and answers.
- Use a checkmark or X for tick boxes.
- Use whiteout to correct a mistake or clear pre-printed text.
- Add your signature on the signature line.

Sign and finish
Many forms end with a signature. Draw or type yours with the Sign PDF tool, place it, and save. For agreements that need stronger proof, a certificate signature adds tamper-evidence — see are e-signatures legally binding.
Tips
- Zoom in to line up text neatly on the form's lines and boxes.
- Flatten by saving so your entries can't be moved by the next person who opens it.
- Keep a copy of the completed, signed form for your records.
